Nanny and parents evaluation

Parts 1, 2 and 3

A happy nanny understands her responsibilities and finds satisfaction fulfilling them while an unhappy nanny brings less to the job when she lacks some level of satisfaction at the workplace. That is why a parent and nanny evaluation was created. A nanny evaluation is an effective communication tool to document the parents and the nanny feedback with the purpose to improve their employment relationship.

It is recommended to fill the first nanny evaluation after three to six months of employment and once every year thereafter.

Every day responsibilities, supervision and time management.

The nanny’s job is about her involvement with children. Nevertheless, while the majority of her responsibilities are directly involved with the children some are not; other responsibilities are more in the nature of support to the family.

The questions below are to help discover what areas of the job the nanny finds less satisfying, whether these may be work-overload and time management and what can possibly happen in order to find more satisfaction at her workplace.

List all the things you do every day at your job

Go over your list and mark those responsibilities that are child-care related.

Write separately your responsibilities at the job that are not child-care related.

Re-write on a fresh piece of paper the entire list. A separate page will give you a fresh start and might help remember some things you might have forgotten on your first list.

Rate items on each list in order of how much you like doing each of your responsibilities with the number 1 being the most satisfying,  2 for I am okay with it, 3 I can tolerate doing this but I don’t like it and the number 4 for I hate  having to do this.

Explain why you find satisfying the responsibilities you rated with the number 1.

Explain the reason why you hate doing your responsibilities you rated with the number 4 and do the same with the responsibilities you rated with numbers 2 and 3.

On responsibilities rated with numbers 2, 3, and 4 offer and alternative explanation such as

  • This should be done less or more often (and write down why)
  • This should be done by someone else (suggest the appropriate person and  write down why)
  • This should be done in another way (provide all your suggesting alternative methods)
  • This should be a substitute for (then give your suggestion)
  • This is not that necessary I do it by myself, or this does not apply to me or this wasn’t on the job description.

My responsibilities are (make a list and when apply describe all your responsibilities at work)

Are there any responsibilities that you could substitute with different ones you might find more satisfying? For any of those you rated with numbers 2 and 3 and especially for the ones you rated with the number 4? Write down all your alternative suggestions.

Time management:

At what time do you start your job each morning? _____

How much variation is there from day to day? _____

At what time do you end your work each day? _____

How much variation is there from day to day? _____

How much notice do you receive for schedule changes? _____

Do you need more notice? _____

Add all your comments and suggestions on the ratio of weekly hours and nanny free time.

How many hours each day are you directly involved with the children? _____

What would you change? _____

Is there any ratio balance to manage stress and burn-outs? _____

What would you change? _____

Rate your employer’s communication with you. Score with one number from 1 to 5, with the number 5 being the highest score and 1 the lowest.  The highest possible score is 50. Suggest all the alternatives you can consider for improvement for any area rated below 5.

The nanny’s only responsibility is to provide high quality child care. Her job requires getting certain things done at certain times. Nannies time themselves on each of their chores to achieve the most work possible by the end of the day without un-attending -at any moment- the children at their care. That is why a re-charge time is crucial to prevent nanny-burnt-out.

PART TWO
